PRIX DANUBE, International TV Festival of Programmes for Children and Youth

Prix Danube 2010

Slovak television proudly presents an exhibition of audiovisual productions for children and youth PRIX DANUBE, which will be held October 21 - October 24, 2010 in Bratislava. The goal of the exhibition is to capture the attention of children and interact with them via the TV screen, but also to commemorate the golden age of child programs on public television. The exhibition shall be accompanied by an international conference titled ‘Media education in an open space’.

PRIX DANUBE is an international biannual festival of television programs for children and youth, the main organizer of which is the Slovak Television. The event dates back to 1971 and since then, it has become an important landmark in the area of television production for children and youth, as well as a forum for creative confrontation of the best TV production the world over. In the past years television companies and producers competed for PRIX DANUBE in multiple categories- animated, fiction and documentary films as well as educational programs.

In 2007, the most recent PRIX DANUBE attracted 218 entrant programs from 39 countries.

PRIX DANUBE Festival is a bi-annual international festival of programmes for children and youth. Its main organiser is Slovak Television.

The festival’s history started in 1971, when its 1st edition was organised. In the meantime, it has become an important event in TV production for children and young people. The festival offers a creative confrontation of the best production of TV companies worldwide . This competition festival is well known to the media world. Television companies and producers compete for Prix Danube in several categories, namely, in animated production, fiction, documentary production, educational programmes. In addition to the main prizes in the individual categories, the mayor of the capital of the Slovak Republic and the young jury award their prizes. Prizes are also awarded by an international jury delegated by CIFEJ (Centre International du Film pour l’Enfance et la Jeunesse (International Centre of Film for Children and Young People), based in Canada. CIFEJ prize is awarded to the producers in two categories, in animated film and fiction categories.
